Vintage Serpent Circa D511

£1400.00

Out of stock

We re not a serpent handler by trade. However this looks to in good playable condition with some surface ware. The instrument is completely solid under the imperfections. Brass mouthpiece in worn on the surface but we can get a note out of it no problem .

The imperfections around the holes appear to be the remnants of some tape. It looks like the holes were taped over at some point.

The imperfections on the reverse is some crackling to the varnish but does not penetrate the body of the instrument in any way

I have had some feedback on this and following comes from a someone with a similar item who was kind enough to help me identify it.

"I think your instrument was made around 40 years ago by David Harding. I have one of these very instruments myself. David sold them through the Early Music Shop (then in Bradford, now in Saltaire) and when he retired from making serpents, the EMS purchased the rights to produce a new plastic resin version, which is still on sale today. Have a look at their website"

The modern version of this one sells at EMS for £2500
